Stop doing this, do this instead.

It’s common to set goals at the beginning of a new year, new month or new phase of life.

People do this because they are inspired to start on a clean slate and execute their “perfect” plan to their “dream” goal. Goals are important, but they don’t determine success. Action does.

A combination of procrastination and perfectionism is the biggest enemy of progress.

Stop doing these 3 things and see how different things will be.

1. Stop constantly thinking about setting new goals. Instead, start executing and think about how to keep moving forward. (“I want to lose weight” or “I want to start exercising” should not be on a fresh list of goals yet again). Start the process and pave way for the action steps that will take you closer to that goal.

2. Stop comparing yourself to someone else. Instead, write your own story. We’re all curious about how others did it that we spend a lot of time reading their stories than we do writing our own. Take a step towards your goal and start carving out your own experience.

3. Stop trying to do things perfectly. Instead, take (im)perfect action and get better as you go. Think progress over perfection. After setting a goal, ask yourself, “how much progress have I made towards my goal?”.

In conclusion, start and don’t think about starting many times over. Start and keep moving forward.
